I would like to share some photos, which related to Christchurch earthquake on February 22nd, 2011. It happened during daylights, many people were working and some of them were studying at the academy. According to the report, at least 100 people died because of building collapse and what I researched about was why did the earthquake happen. It happened because New Zealand is part of the Ring of Fire, which means there would be a lot of earthquakes and volcanoes. Even 1 year ago, there was a magnitude 7.3 earthquake on South Island of New Zealand, not far from Christchurch. At that moment, 10000 homes destroyed and many people died as same as now. This earthquake gave very strong damage to the Christchurch because it’s only 3 miles away from the ground. Nobody expected to it happened because it was just a normal day as usual. At least 380 people are still on the wreckage of buildings but rescuers can’t help them anymore because there are still small amount of earthquake kept causing and decided its too dangerous to help them from the building. It could collapse anytime and anywhere.
Today I was surprised when I watched the teachers share their Australian culture and dance. I would like to thank Ms. Dianne, Mr. Bruce, Mrs. Bruce, Mr. John, and Mr. Rick who showed Australia dance and sang a songs for the audience. What I was most impressed with was the Australian traditional dance. It was like a waltz and a very sophisticated dance movement. I enjoyed watching and dancing with Jaeseung, Changmin, Yohan, Hojun and Jaemin. It was such an enjoyable time and a most impressive dance! It was called the “Heel and Toe polka”. The dance became harder because the music become faster, so we had to be ready to continue the movement of dance. I thought that dance was good because it was easy to memorize and follow the dance steps even though I was just a beginner. The song ‘ I am Australia.’ was a powerful and patriotic song. The song ‘Home among the gum trees’ was also very good, because Ms. Dianne mixed the song with easy dance steps even the small kids could follow the dancing with Ms.Dianne. It was a very good to say “Hoi!” when Mr. Rick said “Haui!”
This week at Sinarmas World Academy we were celebrating Mother Tongue week.
Each day, students shared the cultures of their countries as we visited the five continents around the globe. Performances were held in the Bamboo Court during lunch times and everyone was invited to come and watch. It was an important event on our school calendar and had a lot of fun, celebrating through music and dance.
There were many different performances during Mother Tongue week, the Chinese fan dance, the Korean fan dance and different kinds of traditional dance and performance from Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. What I was most impressed with was the teacher’s playing the Angkor, it was a very good performance with good harmony and even though they made some mistakes, we watched it and enjoyed it a lot.
There were many display boards from the different countries in the Lotus lounge area. When we looked around, I felt like I was travelling through six countries at once with very good explanations on the posters. I knew many people didn’t like to look around or watch this exhibition because they were just too lazy and didn’t want to waste time. In my opinion, our school is becoming more international and we should look around at the many different countries’ and their cultures so that we have more information to understand the backgrounds of our teachers and friends. There are many people who don’t know how many people live in Australia and what their traditional foods are. Do you know about it? I guess, you don’t have any idea of the answers to those questions. That’s the reasons why we are celebrating Mother Tongue week and sharing information about countries in each of the five continents.
The celebration of Mother tongue day needs all people to participate and to share their own countries culture within the school community. However, I didn’t see everyone participation as much as we needed. I hope they will participate for their own countries at the food fair on Friday and understand their friends’ culture. This event will be a wonderful memory when we grow up and I hope that many more students will join the celebrations in 2012.
What have you learned about blogging that you didn't know before?
First of all, I would like to explain what is the blog. Blog is a type of website to put much information that people are interested in. We can share information and ideas in many ways, get many friends and peers and can know people’s different perspective in each comments. Blog is infinitive and enjoyable. We may get some fun from decorating the blog and reading comments as well. Personally, I thought that we get some improvement of writing skills and it’s enough to be attracting people who don’t have any blogs. It’s connection between the world and me. I will probably try hard to make fantastic blog and people will give me many different comments that I need to fix for my blog.
What is the best thing you like about blogging- expressing yourself in a creative way? Sharing photos, videos, music etc.
In my opinion, it makes us improve creative way in watching others’ blog on the Blogger. I could inspire from others’ blog what they did for their blog and I would try to use my creativity to make better one than other. It’s quite challenge but personally, it could be an one of the way that we can get improvement in creativity and English. I like to do blogging because I can share my videos, photos and opinion. I can get many feedbacks, which I had better change to make better videos or photos for the next time.
What is you favorite part of the blogging page? Why?
First, I like my video part because I tried hard to make and personally, I like to share my own information with friends and other people. We can post fun videos, interesting videos and many different types of video. Secondly, I like to decorate the background because I like photos, which related to smiling. So I put smiling photo on it and I hope people laugh a lot with watching my blog.
What have you learnt about nouns that you didn’t know before?
I didn’t know that nouns were complex and it composed with many types of nouns. At first, I felt that why Ms.Dianne asked us to do nouns because I believed that I could do well in that. However, my ability of nouns was a just piece of cake. Then I just realized that I need to concentrate it as hard as I possible and I hope I may have ability to distribute nouns well. Finally, I knew what is the meaning of each noun and could distribute little bit, but not perfect. I would like to appreciate to Ms.Dianne that she taught us to make our English strong in nouns.

I made this video when I was in grade 8. In Humanities class, teacher asked us to make at least one music video with my friends. I felt like so confused because I had to choose the song and needed to make the music video almost same as song's lyrics. Finally, I was able to choose the 'Your Love Is A Lie' from Simple plan and I was happy with my final product. I hope you enjoy watching this video and look forward with your comments!!
My issue is obesity, which is related to our health. Good Health is really important and we need to maintain and protect our bodies. According to the report, on average fat people don’t live as long as those who are moderately overweight. As you can see from that report, we should exercise or reduce eating fast foods in our daily lives. Personally, I used to like eating McDonald’s, food with high calories and high fat content. After I finished this project, I felt like I needed to stop eating McDonald’s and fast food. So I stopped and I felt better than before. At first, it was really hard to give up eating those foods but after I overcame that situation, I felt great that I had achieved my goal. I won’t say that people mustn’t eat McDonald’s or other fast foods, but If they want to protect their health by themselves then eating health foods is important.
I chose this topic because I was really surprised with the statistics that I found from the Internet. Especially, one statistic made me really shocked me and 155 million people a similar to me are affected by obesity. Furthermore, 300,000 people died because of obesity related illnesses. I thought that I should announce to my friends that we should stop eating McDonald’s fast food. Normally, on the way home, there is a McDonald’s drive through, so many students usually eat McDonald’s when they go home. I want them to go there less and that is the purpose behind this video and poster about “Obesity.”
Globally, there are 2.3 billion people affected by obesity. They should stop eating fast foods such as McDonald’s because it is becoming a bad habit from generation to generation. What I want to say, if parents are fat, their children are more likely to be fat. Because they didn’t hear any warnings by their parents that fast foods are bad. Research shows it causes a lot of diseases and fat children don’t exercise because their parents don’t want to cooperate to do exercise. This is the biggest issue around the world, so we should stop eating fast foods such as McDonald’s and do more exercise for our future and next generation if we are to have a healthy life.
